We’re here to learn!

Year 1

At Cherbourg Primary School, we recognise Year 1 as a transitional year, moving children from play-based learning experiences in the Early Years towards an increasingly structured curriculum.  Throughout the year, all staff continue to support the needs of the children in order for them to develop and learn in a safe learning environment.

Ideas to support your child's learning this term:

English:

We would like all children to Read 3x per week. Looking for letters of their name, tricky word or sounds they  know. Please remember to record this in your child's reading record for their class reward chart.

Handwriting we are now using the Oxford Nelson Handwriting programme and suggest single letters are not joined at the beginning of year 1. To help support your child with their letter formation and

pencil control we will be providing handwriting books for your child to practise at home.

Maths:

Over this term we will be counting, ordering and identifying digits and number words to 20 and beyond.

We will also be looking at 2D and 3D shapes.
