Sports
Here at Cherbourg we pride ourselves on inclusion and resilience, and our sport provision is no exception. We believe that every single child can do anything they put their mind to. By attending a wide variety of both competitive and non competitive events we strive to provide new experiences, build self confidence, strengthen team work, value the whole child and foster a love of physical education.
We are proud to uphold the ‘Gold Sports Award’ for the past 4 years through Hampshire School Games, for our dedication and opportunities of sport across the school. We provide these opportunities through our curriculum, fixtures, events, after school clubs and community pathways.
We are not only proud of sports participation by our students on a daily basis, but the following outstanding achievements they have attained over the past year; Regional (Eastleigh and Winchester) champions/runners up in table tennis, basketball, hockey, netball and football. Representing Eastleigh and Winchester in the county finals for the sports. County champions of the Panathlon event, Year 5/6 3v3 basketball and Year 3 basketball tournament. Our boys and girls football teams have also represented Southampton FC in the Premier League National Finals in the last 2 years. Our boys and girls football teams have also won their football leagues and/or runners up in successive years.
Fixtures and Events
At Cherbourg, we pride ourselves on giving opportunities to children, to give them experiences that they will enjoy and remember. One way we do this is through fixtures and events. We enter Hampshire School Games events, Eastleigh and Winchester Football League, and arrange matches in a variety of different sports. Fixtures and events are never about the results but about ensuring each child is given an opportunity to showcase their teamwork and enthusiasm for sports. We ensure that boys and girls are given opportunities in all sports and competitions, throughout all year groups.
After School Clubs
We run multiple after school sports clubs across Year 1-6 at our school, for boys and girls. We run four clubs for football including; Girls football, Year 1&2, Year 3&4, Year 5&6, all football clubs run throughout the school year. We also run clubs for; Basketball, Dodgeball, Table Tennis, Hockey, and Street Dance, provided by Miss H and external providers.
