Vacancy – Level 1 or 2 LSA part-time, temporary contract from September 2018

Learning Support Assistant, initially with our younger children.

Level 1 or 2 – Up to 20 hours per week

Temporary contract – from 1st September to 31st August 2019

We have a one-year temporary vacancy for a learning support assistant at Cherbourg Primary School. Working initially with younger children, there may be opportunities to also work with children across the Key Stages, so we are looking for staff who love to see learning happening, and can adapt their skills to meet the age ranges and the needs of the children in our school. This may include meeting the toileting needs of young children with SEND.

We can offer you training in special educational needs, including social-emotional and mental health needs, but experience of supporting learning in school-age children would be an advantage.
The role will be for a Level 1 or Level 2 post, dependent on experience and ability to fulfil the person specification. Hours are part-time and up to 25 hours. This is a fixed term post from September 2018 until August 2019.

Cherbourg Primary School and Hampshire County Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We will ensure that all our recruitment and selection practices reflect this commitment. All successful candidates will be subject to Disclosure and Barring Service checks along with other relevant employment checks.

If you would like to visit us, or find out more about the role, please contact us on 02380612557.

We welcome applications from candidates from black and minority ethnic communities.

Applications in by 5pm Thursday 21st June. Interviews are likely to be Thursday 28th June.

Vacancy – Level 2 LSA (SEMH) part-time from September 2018

We are looking for capable, cheerful, resilient and enthusiastic people to work part time within our Jarjums team; our learning support team within our resourced provision for pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs. Although prior experience is useful, we can train you in managing behaviour; help you to develop strategies for supporting social and emotional needs and enable you to deliver programmes of support. We will also offer training in Team Teach physical intervention strategies. Your role will be to support pupils to access learning within mainstream classes, whilst being able to meet their individual needs at other times of the day.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who is looking to gain skills working with children, prior to undertaking a role in child psychology or teaching for example. We are also looking for people who would like to broaden their career within this field, learning to be a highly skilled learning support assistant.

There will be regular opportunities to gain experience within our secondary pilot resourced provision at nearby Crestwood College, Cherbourg campus too.

The role will be for a Level 1 or Level 2 post, dependent on experience and ability to fulfil the person specification. Hours are part-time and up to 20 hours, but there may be opportunities for additional hours. This is a fixed term post from September 2018 until August 2019.

Vacancy – Level 2 LSA at Crestwood School from September 2018

Dear Applicant,

Learning Support Assistant – Level 1 and 2, based in our Galigir Room Resourced Provision for secondary aged pupils with social emotional and mental health needs at the Cherbourg campus of Crestwood school.

Thank you for showing an interest in this exciting and unique opportunity to be part of a joint venture between Crestwood College and Cherbourg Primary, as it goes into its second pilot year. Galigir is an Australian aboriginal dialect word for ‘young people’ and the idea of a resourced provision being a room which belongs to the young people with whom we will be working, is at the heart of what we are hoping to achieve.

Cherbourg Primary has a well-established SEMH resourced provision; the Jarjums Room (Children’s Room) and we have recreated the ways we know work for children and young people who are frequently frustrated and inflexible. Our goal is to enable our young people to succeed in education, and the majority of your role will be to support individual or small groups of pupils to access learning within mainstream lessons, working alongside class teachers.

You will also be trained to carry out intervention programmes for learning and therapeutic support for individuals within the Galigir Room. You will need to keep detailed records to support learning and progress in all areas. The young people we will be working with will often display difficult and aggressive behaviour and you will be trained to intervene calmly and professionally to enable the young person to self-regulate. This role can be challenging but exciting and will require someone who has the character to see each session as a new session. The pupils in our resourced provisions are overcoming enormous barriers to their learning, but it is extremely rewarding when we are able to see huge progress in their behaviour and their learning.

We are looking for capable, resilient and enthusiastic people who will work across both primary and secondary phases in the first instance. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who is looking to
gain skills working with children, prior to undertaking a role in child psychology or teaching for example. We are also looking for people who would like to broaden their career within this field, learning to be a highly skilled support assistant. There will be opportunities for successful candidates to also work regularly in the Jarjums Room with Primary aged children too.

The post is initially a one year temporary contract, but please note that the contract will be handed over to Crestwood College in April 2019 for the remainder of the summer term, when the pilot is  hopefully confirmed as a permanent resourced provision. Alongside this letter there is a job description and the original proposal for the Galigir Room, which will help you to see the rationale behind the work we are doing at Crestwood College.

The closing date for applications is Thursday 21st at 5p.m. and successful candidates will be informed by email or phone, for interviews, which are likely to be on Wednesday 27 June. If you would like to make a time to talk to someone about the post, or to visit Galigir at Crestwood College, please contact us on 02380612557, 02380649613 (Galigir) or by email, admin@cherbourg.hants.sch.uk.

I look forward to receiving your application.

Yours sincerely,
