‘Build a Band’

We were invited to ‘Build a Band’ at Toynbee School yesterday and Mrs Greer took eleven of our musicians to take part. The children were a credit to our school and enjoyed taking part in rehearsals before performing to a small audience. Well done!

Little Princess Trust

In honour of her nan, who sadly passed away last year, Millie-May Dewey from Beagle Class (Yr 5) has made the decision that she would like to donate her hair to the Little Princess Trust for ‘Make A Wig’ for children who are suffering from cancer. Millie-May will be having her hair cut tomorrow and to be able for it to be made into a children’s wig, she will need to have at least 10 inches cut off. Well done Millie-May!

Abseiling Challenge

One of our teachers, Lauren Thomassen, braved her fear of heights in the half term and abseiled 300ft down the Spinnaker Tower in Gunwharf Quay. She has helped raise over £2000 for ‘Nicole’s House’, a charity to support independent living for adults with disabilities, such as her severely disabled sister.

Refugee Week

Next week is Refugee Week across the country. We will be using resources to look at the plight of refugees across the world and to consider ways to help people in crisis at home and abroad. We will also be ‘live’ on Radio Solent 96.1fm just after 8.30 when two of our pupils will read out the weather forecast.

Phonics Testing

Year 1 children have been tested this week on their phonics. This has taken place in school with members of our staff. We were monitored by Hampshire County Council with an unannounced visit and the Inspector was very pleased with how we do the tests.

Showcase Work

This week’s Showcase Work is from Amber Vernon from Endeavour Class (Yr 5). Amber wrote a letter at home to Mrs Greer to which Mrs Greer sent a reply. Copies of both letters are on the reverse of this newsletter.

We have had a lot of interest from parents regarding having letters etc sent via email. From September we will be able to offer this facility but we need to have current email addresses from parents/carers. Please, could you complete the slip below with your details and return it to the school office as soon as possible.  Thank you

This is a copy of the letter that was sent to parents. The original had a reply slip that is not included in this online version. If you would like a copy with the original reply slip please contact the office.
