Santa Maria class entered a writing competition run by the University of Winchester. The students read and discussed ‘the Boat’, a story about refugees that didn’t have an ending. The class discussed ideas before a selection of pages to be judged.
The judges were hugely impressed not only with the writing and artwork that the students produced, but also their maturity and understanding. They ultimately decided that ten children’s collaborative efforts were worthy of victory in the writing and artwork categories! Huge congratulations to the whole of Santa Maria class for their work but also in particular to Sophie, Sienna, Poppie, Megan, Marika, Flo, Sam, Charlie, Annabelle and India.
Dr. Morris from the University visited today to award those children with certificates copies of the book signed by the author and illustrator. She also had another surprise, bringing a limited edition artwork from the book to recognise the hard work of the whole class.
We are all incredibly proud of our amazing young writers!
We would also like to extend our thanks to the University of Winchester for running the competition. The children were highly engaged and this was reflected in the quality of their work!
