29th June – Anglo Saxon Day on July 10th

This letter was not sent to the entire school so it may not be relevant for your child

Dear Parents/Carers

As a way of providing your child with the best opportunity to find out about Life in Saxon Britain, we have arranged for History Off The Page to spend the day with us at school on Monday 10th July. Your child will experience life through role-play as it would have been living in the year 878 AD at the time of the Battle of Edington. They will be using authentic tools and materials whenever possible to learn skills as apprentices in a wide variety of workshops.

Children will need an Anglo Saxon costume for the day, please see attached letter for some ideas on how to make them. Pupils should not include weapons as part of their costume.

As the day progresses, the children will get involved in the issues of the time, with the chance to participate in a range of cross-curricular activities. By the end of the day they will have a really good idea of how it felt like to be a Saxon at the time of King Alfred.

We are asking for a contribution of £5 per child towards the cost of this activity. We are looking for parent helpers for either the morning or afternoon sessions so if you are able to help out please tick the box on the slip below and the staff will be in touch to let you know if we will be taking you up on your offer.

Please sign the permission slip below and bring it back to the office along with the £5 contribution as soon as possible.

Yours sincerely
