Santa Maria 4S

Welcome to Santa Maria Class

Read more about how we became Santa Maria class

The Santa Maria was Christopher Columbus’ ship. Christopher Columbus was an explorer who discovered the Earth was not flat, as was believed at the time; it was round! In 1492, he sailed the Santa Maria, along with two other ships, across the Atlantic Ocean to discover North America.

In Santa Maria class, we researched the ship on the internet using the iPads and laptops, and worked together to make and decorate our own Santa Maria out of an old cardboard box.

The children in our class enjoyed imagining what it was like to be Christopher Columbus on his voyage of discovery and thinking about what it might have been like for the native people of America too!
